M68 uses a powerful active ingredient called CMIT/MIT that rapidly neutralises harmful microbial growth. CMIT/MIT has been used for over 20 years as a highly effective anti-microbial ingredient in fuel biocides, used widely in global shipping, oil & gas and aviation sectors for its safety, efficacy & speed. M68 uses CMIT/MIT to protect all 4 major fuel system components:

In contrast to Kathon™ FP 1.5, FuelClear M68 is designed for smaller volumes of fuel where a 0.066gal/250ml bottle is sufficient such as small yachts, home heating applications or power generation.

FuelClear™ M68 Fuel Biocide is available in 250ml or 1L bottles. 1L is sufficient to treat 3,000 litres of contaminated fuel and will restore fuel quality in 12-24 hours. Used as a preventative measure, a 1L bottle will treat 6,000 litres of clean fuel and provide up to 3 months protection.

The active substance in this biocide is a mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one & 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol- 3-one (3:1) (CAS 55965-84-9). Not for aviation use. For professional users only. UN 3265.

Application

Treat Rate: 10ml of M68 treats 60 litres of clean fuel (1:6000) or 30 litres of spoilt fuel (1:3000). Fuel will be ready to use after 6 hours, however a minimum of 12 hours is recommended. For extreme spoilage, double dose & wait 48 hours. If fuel remains unused, retreat every 3 months (max 5 times).
Fuels: All middle distillate fuels including Diesel, Gas Oil, Petrol, Heating Oil, Biodiesel, Fuel Emulsions.
Industries: Marine, Rail, Agriculture, Automotive, Home Heating, Power & any other professional fuel-using application.
Precautions: Never dose into an empty tank. Dose prior to refilling your tank or premix with at least 10 litres of fuel.

The high performance, fast-acting biocide prevents filter blocking and fuel system degrading to restore fuel rapidly to a 'like new' condition. The M68 fuel care biocide is suitable for all diesel and petrol variants, including low sulphur diesels, biodiesel and fuel emulsions.

This fuel biocide treatment solution is trusted and used by major oil producers in the UK and has been used for over 20 years. The unique design of the M68 fuel biocide bottle allows for easy dose measurement to help correctly treat your fuel.

FuelClear™ M68 uses a chemical to provide long-lasting and thorough protection of your fuel called ‘CMIT/MIT’. Nearly every other biocide uses a chemical called ‘MBO’ (3,3'- methylenebis[5-methyloxazolidine]). In controlled tests, CMIT/MIT has stronger proven performance – neutralising more species of microbes in less time versus the competition using MBO. That’s why CMIT/MIT is the ONLY biocide approved for aviation applications.

FuelClear™ M68 and its active ingredient CMIT/MIT are also proven to be safer – with MBO now being recognised as a Carcinogen according to the European Chemicals & Health Agency. Furthermore, the chemistry behind M68 is now used and approved by a huge range of industrial organisations including Boeing, Rolls Royce, MTU and nearly every oil company.

What is fuelclear M68?

FuelClear M68 is a fuel preservative or biocide. It is designed to extend the life of your fuel & fuel system by neutralising ‘The Diesel Bug’ - bacterial & fungal growth found commonly in delivered fuel supplies globally.
What are the symptoms of ‘The Diesel Bug’?

Discoloured fuel, a foul egg-like smell from your fuel, black sludges in tank bottoms, slimes on tank walls, filter blockages (leading to fuel starvation), fuel pump failure and tank corrosion.
I don’t have a problem right now, should I use FuelClear™ M68?

‘The Diesel Bug’ is ubiquitous. It is found in nearly every litre of untreated fuel regardless of provenance & local regulations. It is transferred in your fuel at a size impossible to see with the naked eye (< 5μm). Given a growth medium (water, also now ubiquitous in fuel supplies) and ideal temperatures (5ºC - 50ºC) microbial growth can lead to fuel degradation within days.
I have severe symptoms of ‘The Diesel Bug’ - what now?

Remove all sludges, slimes & water from your fuel tank by physical means. Dose FuelClear™ M68 at 1:1500 (10ml of M68 per 15 litres of fuel). See precautions on back of box before dosing.
What about bacterial resistance?

A frequent misconception when using biocides is that recurrent use weakens their protection against common forms of bacteria. This is a problem found in medical applications where anti-biotic resistance of bacteria is becoming increasingly feared. Because biocides use a chemical mechanism of bacterial neutralisation (as opposed to an organic mechanism), cells are eradicated in whole, leading to long term effective use without resistance.
What about bacterial tolerance?

Tolerance is not the same as resistance. Bacteria can become tolerant to bioicides if misused. M68 has over 20 years’ use without any indication of tolerance, however it is theoretically possible. By strictly following the dosing information on this pack the issue is extremely unlikely to occur.
How do I know it will work?

When can I use my fuel again?

After treating with FuelClear™ M68, fuel is ready again in 12 hours.
What is the shelf life of this bottle?

From manufacture, shelf life is 2 years. For remaining shelf life - the expiry date will be found on the base of this box.
How do I dose it into my fuel?

Unscrew cap & dose into your fuel prior either prior to a refill, or pre-mixed with 10 litres of fuel.
Can I put FuelClear M68 in the fuel tanks aboard my boat?

Yes, M68 can be used in any fuel-using application. The product has been designed for marine users in mind.
How long does the FuelClear™ M68 protect my fuel?

As a preventative measure in a standard fuel tank, 3 months. M68 can be reapplied for each fresh refill.
What other precautions can I take to prevent ‘The Diesel Bug’?

Dewater your tanks monthly, test with the M68 Test Kit every 3 months and if possible, inspect tanks, filters & pumps regularly.
I cannot get access to my tank to dewater, what should I do?

Do not run down your fuel tank. Dose M68 into the tank and refill. Call Fuelcare for recommendations on tank cleaning.
Does M68 work with Diesel & Biodiesel?

Yes. The product has been proven to work on all Diesel & Biodiesel types including B100.
Will M68 corrode or degrade my fuel system?

The product has been used with zero material compatibility issues seen for over 20 years. Nearly every major engine manufacturer approves 3rd party fuel preservative products.
